These raised beds are affordable, durable and beautiful alike. Created from cedar fence pickets and 2x4s, this raised bed was designed to accommodate the needs of any gardener. 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and 18 inches deep, (2 foot by 6 foot option available) It is also outfitted with a top trim piece that makes the raised bed look elegant, and can also be used as a ledge for sitting! The area and depth of the raised bed provides a gardening space that is easily managed, and efficiently accommodates a variety of plants. Use it for vegetables, flowers, herbs and small shrubs alike!
Cedar is known for its benefits out in the garden, especially for its rot resistant properties. This makes Cedar great for building raised beds. Cedar can last for many times longer than traditional pine lumber but you're going to pay for this natural durability at a more significant cost. So how did we solve this problem? This raised bed design utilizes cedar fence pickets in order to get the benefits of cedar while significantly saving on the cost. When compared to other raised bed designs that use traditional 2x4 and 2x6 lumber, this raised bed should be more affordable and last longer! This raised bed cost approximately $70 to build including the cost of hardware (Prices of material based on location may vary), and are expected to last much longer than the typical 3 years for pine raised beds.
This raised bed design also utilizes traditional 2x4 lumber to create support braces for durability and longevity. The raised bed is supported on all 4 corners as well as down the length of the long 6 foot side. These braces will ensure that your raised bed remains sturdy for years to come. This design also safely incorporates the use of treated lumber, none of which touches the soil in the raised bed! Treated lumber significantly adds to the overall life of the raised bed and since all of it is on the outside of the cedar you won’t have to worry about any potential leaching into your garden bed soil. However, the beauty of this plan is that you can substitute traditional untreated lumber, or other types of woof if desired.
